Silver Maple Counselling

Welcome, I’m so glad you’re here.

My name is Brooke, and I am a Registered Social Worker. I work with individuals, couples, and families who are seeking support while navigating seasons of challenge and difficulty. In my experience, this work can often feel like very slowly untying tricky knots in a giant ball of yarn. There are moments when the thread feels incredibly stuck, and other times it comes loose with ease. Whatever the process is for you, a vibrant tapestry can eventually be woven from the threads we loosen together.

My approach to therapy work is relational and client-centered. You are the expert in your own experience, and my role is to walk alongside you, not ahead of you. I’m here to help slow things down just enough so that whatever feels overwhelming can be understood, one manageable piece at a time. I strive to balance professionalism with a humbled recognition that I, too, am a human alongside you in the room. I believe in the importance of the therapeutic relationship, and aim to nurture a genuine connection of warmth and of emotional safety with my clients.

While I work with clients from all walks of life, I hold a special place in my work for grief. Grief has been one of my most enduring and transformative teachers. Grief carries with it the heartbreaking lesson that not all that is broken can be fixed, and not all that is painful can be healed. And yet, we must continue to live. I have walked through many thresholds of grief in my life, and am no stranger to the enormity of what this heavy companion asks us to hold. I am here to bear witness to the impossible weight you are carrying, and to offer a soft place to rest.

When I work with couples, I hold a neutral, non-judgmental space for both people to feel safe and seen. So often, couples find their way to me in the aftermath of storm and tension; reactive, guarded, and exhausted from feeling misunderstood. My role is to help soften the walls that have gone up between you, so that it becomes possible to truly hear and understand each other. I draw on tools like nonviolent communication to help translate frustration and reactivity into the tender need, fear, or longing that’s often hiding underneath. I believe that couples who come to see me are here because they care deeply about each other, and about what they’ve built together. My work is to help you find your way back to a felt sense of that love, so that a calming easefulness can return after a long season of storm.

I also hold a special focus on women’s health, particularly helping women understand and work with the natural rhythms of their menstrual cycle as a source of insight, and supporting the transitions, big and small, that come with living in a body that changes over time.

My background in nature-based alternative education also shapes how I practice. I often draw on the wisdom of the natural world as a way of understanding our own cycles, seasons, and rhythms of growth and rest. I weave in the use of ritual as a source of guidance and direction for regulating the nervous system, fostering spiritual connection, and making meaning of our experiences. For those who are open to it, I offer space to explore spirituality, connection to ancestors, and the wisdom of the more-than-human world. This is not a requirement of the work, but one of many possible sources of support, guidance, and grounding as we make sense of what you’re journeying through.

I am trained in a variety of modalities, such as Internal Family Systems, Somatic Parts Work, Narrative Therapy, Attachment Theory, and Emotionally Focused Therapy. While I draw on these evidence-based approaches, I do not believe in one-size-fits-all treatment. What we do together is shaped entirely by your history, your needs, and your capacity in this season of your life.

If you’re looking for a space to be met with deep empathy, genuine compassion, and someone willing to walk alongside you as you make sense of it all, I’d be glad to be that person for you.
